Ohio Meningitis Lawyer

Bellefontaine Failure to Diagnose Meningitis Attorney

Recently we have been contacted by several people regarding the onset of Meningitis after a visit to a local Bellefontaine Ohio area hospital. This illness may have been contracted in the family birth center, or treatment at the hospital. Medical centers and doctor's offices have a strict responsibility to prevent these types of illnesses and may be liable for the failure to detect them. If you or someone you love contracts Meningitis due to the hospital or medical provider's negligence, or if permanent injury or death is the result of their failure to act you have a cause for action under the laws of Ohio. Contact the Ohio meningitis lawyers at the Donahey Law Firm, LLP to discuss what has happened and to draw on more than 40 years of continuous service to Ohioans who have been injured or killed by medical malpractice.

What is Meningitis?

Meningitis results in swelling of the lining around the spinal cord and the brain. Neonatal meningitis can often develop from untreated maternal Group B Streptococcal (GBS) and E Coli. Those with meningitis experience symptoms such as vomiting, rash, a fever, stiffness in the neck and back, sleepiness, confusion, intolerance to bright light and even seizures. An associated blood poisoning illness known as Septicemia can present with the same symptoms, as well as pale skin color, the chills, and pain in the muscles or joints. These dangerous illnesses can result in the death of the patient within hours, and can also result in a coma, permanent brain injury, paralysis and in some cases blindness. A prompt and accurate diagnosis is crucial. Unlike Viral Meningitis, Septicemia and fungal and bacterial Meningitis can usually be treated with an early diagnosis. Sadly, the failure to diagnose these illnesses (misdiagnosis) can be common, as Meningitis is often incorrectly perceived as a condition in babies and/or children.
