Inducing Labor Risks
In some deliveries, doctors need to induce labor to protect the health of the mother or the child. Misuse of Pitocin - Effects on Baby & Mother
Many errors made in the inducing of labor involve use of the prescription drug, Pitocin. Pitocin is used to induce labor, or stimulate contractions during the birthing process.
When used properly, Pitocin can be effective in ensuring a safe delivery. However, when too much Pitocin is administered, or it is used for too long of a time, the child is prone to suffer serious birth injuries. Since Pitocin decreases uterine blood flow, extended use of the drug could result in cerebral palsy and other injuries caused by lack of oxygen to the baby's brain.
Pitocin also poses risks to the mother. When it is not administered correctly, the mother can suffer uterine rupture, water intoxication and other problems.
Our attorneys have extensive experience handling birth injury cases and understand the standard of care medical professionals must meet in the inducing of labor. We have the experience, skill and resources to help you obtain fair and just compensation for your losses.
