Federal investigators recently released a report that found that most errors that occur in hospitals and harm Medicare patients are not reported. According to The New York Times, federal investigators found that only one out of seven errors was reported. Even the errors that get reported do not lead to changes in patient care in order to prevent further medical errors, the investigators found.

As discussed in the previous post, tort reform that aims to make it harder to file a medical malpractice lawsuit in order to cut down on frivolous lawsuits and, thus, keep medical malpractice insurance rates low may actually have the unintended consequence of dismissing legitimate medical malpractice lawsuits. Mother claims doctor's negligence led to injured newborn

A woman in another state has sued the doctor that delivered her baby on behalf of the child who continues to suffer from birth injuries. The lawsuit claims that the doctor committed medical malpractice by leaving the baby for dead for four hours instead of immediately putting the baby under the care of a pediatrician in a neonatal intensive care unit.
