Truck accident kills 2 and severely injures 2

A truck driver who rear-ended a motorist in Ohio earlier in the year in a "road rage" incident has now been involved in a truck accident that left two people dead and two people severely injured. His semi-truck hit another truck, as well as four pedestrians and another pickup that was parked on the side of the road.

Physician's Mistake Causes Brain Injury; Hospital To Pay $15M

Those in Franklin, Ohio, may be interested to know that a Snoqualmie family was recently awarded $15 million after their daughter was injured due to a physician error. According to reports, the four-year-old girl was a heart-transplant patient at the University of Washington hospital and Seattle Children's Hospital and was being treated for a cold when a consulting doctor did not repeat back the correct instructions on which medications the girl would be able take. Afrin, the nasal spray the four-year-old's mother was told was acceptable, is known to cause elevated blood pressure that could be damaging to a heart transplant.

Spinal Cord Trauma Study Provides Hope For Accident Victims

A new medical study appears to have made progress in understanding tissue damage following an acute spinal cord injury. Scientists used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to study damage patterns in the months following the spinal trauma. They discovered that irreversible tissue loss occurred in the spinal cord within 40 days of the accident, a finding that rebuts the common belief that it took years for spinal injury victims' tissue to show physical evidence of the injury.

Hospital Nearly Harvested Organs From Living Patient

In 2009, a young woman was admitted to a New York hospital after overdosing on a combination of pharmaceutical drugs. Despite showing signs of life, such as curling her toes and demonstrating resistance to being placed on a ventilator, the patient was declared dead and the hospital staff prepared to remove her organs for donation to needy patients.

Most of the medical community believes that pre-eclampsia brings an increased risk of cerebral palsy to the infant, but not much was known about this relationship. A new study from Norway makes some new revelations about this mysterious link.
