2 truck drivers injured in highway accident

An accident involving a dump truck and a FedEx delivery truck on Ohio 19 in Salem Township resulted in the drivers of both vehicles suffering injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 1:35 p.m. close to Beier Road.

The dump truck, laboring under a load of 67,000 pounds of asphalt was headed north on the highway when the vehicle veered off of the right edge of the road. When the driver tried to quickly correct his course, the truck rolled and crashed down onto the FedEx truck. As in most Ohio truck accidents that involve heavy vehicles, injuries resulted. The 29-year-old driver of the FedEx truck desperately attempted to leap out of his vehicle to avoid the impending fall of the dump truck, but was not able to escape in time. He was flown to a medical center in a helicopter.

A 30-year-old male coworker riding with him was able to jump out in time and avoided injury. Both FedEx employees are residents of Toledo, as is the 39-year-old male driver of the dump truck. The dump truck driver was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital where his injuries were treated by medical personnel in the emergency room.

Emergency responders summoned to the scene of the accident included fire personnel, police and emergency medical workers. They took charge of the accident site, assisting the injured, directing traffic and beginning an investigation. Without such assistance, one accident could easily have resulted in additional crashes.

Injuries in truck accidents are often serious enough to prevent drivers from working for substantial periods of time or to require surgery and prolonged medical treatment. Soon after seeking medical attention, injured persons and their families often find it advisable to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney to seek compensation from those responsible for the accident. A personal injury lawsuit may include claims for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and other damages.
