Malpractice costs down despite continued errors

Last year, New York faced heightened medical malpractice lawsuits due to the problems encountered after surgical errors. Those in Columbus should know that when a preventative or basic surgery is the cause of major health problems, there may be legal options you can choose to look into to help you obtain compensation for your pain and suffering.

For instance, what would you do if a Caesarian-section surgery went wrong? That's the problem one family has been facing. According to reports, the city paid a seven-figure amount to a man and his family after his wife became comatose and went into a vegetative state after a C-section. According to the 44-year-old man, his wife is unable to speak, eat or complete normal tasks three years after giving birth to their child. The 39-year-old woman and her husband were paid nearly $10 million as a settlement because it was believed that the two epidurals the woman was given caused the paralysis of her respiratory system, which led to her current vegetative state.

Despite the large payouts, New York is claiming that it has decreased its payouts for medical malpractice by around $3 million, and the number of cases of medical malpractice dropped from 270 malpractice cases in 2012 to 262 in 2013's fiscal year.

Medical negligence and malpractice can leave you injured, and it can even lead to the death of a loved one. If you feel you've suffered because of the negligence of a doctor or medical staff, make sure you understand that you have a legal right to seek compensation. You may be able to receive money for medical bills, pain and suffering, funeral costs and other expenses.
