NFL settlement focused on brain injuries is a win for players

Franklin, Ohio, residents know that brain injuries can cause many issues, from paralysis to unknown effects that occur later in life. Now, a discussion about the severity of a brain injury is the center of controversy for the NFL, because its players are more likely to receive concussions and head injuries playing football.

According to a report released on August 29, a proposed lawsuit settlement of $765 million may be a victory for both sides involved in the controversial brain injury cases between former NFL players and the NFL itself. If a judge agrees to this deal, the NFL will use the funds to provide concussion-related compensation, medical research, and medical exams to players. The lawsuit was formed on behalf of over 4,500 former professional football players and family members who have accused the NFL of hiding the risks of concussions from them to help its image and to return players to the field. The NFL denies that it did anything wrong, according to reports.

The settlement may provide helpful research that will aid players who suffer concussion-related injuries. While it's not clear that these repetitive brain injuries lead to suicide or additional injuries that have occurred to those in the NFL in the past, families of players like the now-passed Junior Seau, may find some peace knowing that the settlement provides for players and families in the future.

Brain injuries are serious, and they can have life-altering consequences. If you or someone you know have suffered from medical trauma resulting in a brain injury or suffered brain injuries due to a lack of medical information, it's important to discuss your legal rights. You may have a right to compensation that can cover medical bills, time missed from work, and other monetary needs.
