Yaz under scrutiny for potential blood clots, pulmonary embolism

Franklin, Ohio, residents may have taken this drug that is now under scrutiny for its potential to cause a pulmonary embolism, blood clots, and DVTs. Because of the danger Yaz is suspected of causing, new lawsuits are suggesting wrongful death has a potential to result.

On Aug. 28, a report was released that stated that women who experienced alleged complications due to using the drug, Yaz, have begun to, and have been, filing lawsuits against the parent company, Bayer. According to the news, more than 10,000 Americans have filed lawsuits against Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella, three similar and related drugs.

According to the current lawsuit, Bayer is accused of launching a marketing campaign for the drug that has misled buyers about the potential benefits of using this drug. Bayer is also accused of not adequately warning patients about the risks and medical complications that can result from taking birth control, like DVTs, blood clots, and pulmonary embolisms.

According to reports, the previous trial scheduled for 2012 had been postponed, and Bayer reportedly paid out at least $110 million to settle hundreds of lawsuits including the drug. It is reported that each settlement was worth around $220,000, and the settlements have continued since the agreement to pay was established. Reports state that by October 2012, the company had settled over 3,000 claims of alleged blood clots due to the use of the drug.

Bayer may also face wrongful death charges if any of the alleged side effects result, and can be proven to have resulted in, wrongful death. Blood clots, along with the other side effects, can result in death if not caught and repaired by a medical doctor. It's important to consider your options if you think you've suffered from a side effect due to a drug, or if someone you know passed away shortly after starting one. There may be legal options you can consider.
