Truck crash leaves man paralyzed

A man is now paralyzed from his chest down as a result of spinal cord injuries suffered in a vehicle accident earlier this year. A grand jury is about to convene to deliberate over whether to lodge criminal charges arising out of the pickup truck accident against a male driver.

The 25-year-old accident victim is still hospitalized almost five month after the accident occurred. Police claim that the crash was the result of a "road rage" incident. The other driver, 24-years-old, was passing the victim's pickup truck only moments prior to when the pickup the victim was driving left Tracy Road in Kingsbury and rammed into a tree, causing the driver to suffer a severed spinal cord. This deprived him entirely of any use of his legs, and even the use of his arms is limited.

The victim says he put his hand out of his truck to tell the other driver to slow down as he attempted to pass a line of vehicles. The other driver allegedly became upset at this, intentionally ramming the front of his car into the rear bumper of the truck a minimum of two times, causing the victim to lose control of his truck.

Insurance will not really cover the victim's damages. He is scheduled to received $50,000 from the other driver's insurance policy and from his own, reflecting the applicable policy limits. That amount of money will barely suffice to cover needed renovations to make the victim's home accessible and to get him a handicap accessible vehicle.

Those who suffer spinal cord injuries in Ohio and across the country as a result of an accident or intentional misconduct usually require lifetime assistance, including medical care and therapy. They are often not able to work. Personal injuries lawsuits against the culpable parties become an essential part of making sure that the victims obtain the help that they need.
