Truck accident kills two in Ohio highway crash

A crash on a highway in Stonelick Township involving five vehicles took a heavy toll, leaving two men dead. The Ohio truck accident occurred on a Friday morning on U.S. 50 at approximately 6:40 a.m. The two dead men were 43-years-old and 39-years old, respectively.

A 60-year-old male motorist was driving his semi-truck up a hill eastbound on the highway when a trailer became unattached from his truck, causing it to veer loose into the westbound lane where the 43-year-old man's pickup truck, a 2004 black Chevrolet Silverado, hit its side, then hit a guardrail. The pickup subsequently rammed into another pickup driven by a second 43-year-old man going east. A Dodge Ram 1500 pickup that was going west then struck the detached trailer's front. The 39-year-old man was driving that pickup.

Finally, yet another vehicle driven by a 52-year-old individual ran into that pickup truck's rear as it continued on while connected to the front of the trailer. The two men were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident while the other driver was briefly hospitalized. The two other drivers were apparently uninjured. State Highway Patrol investigators are conducting a thorough investigation to determine why the trailer became detached, causing the string of accidents. It was not clear at this time whether the man driving the semi-truck from which it became detached will face any criminal charges.

Truck accidents often result in serious injuries and deaths because of the weight of the vehicles involved and their cargoes. Victims of such accidents and their families can often recover damages for personal injuries or wrongful death both from responsible drivers and their employers. In many truck accidents, driver fatigue, negligent maintenance, drug or alcohol abuse, speeding, or distracted driving because of texting or cell phone use behind the wheel are involved, or a combination of such factors.
