Woman's wrongful death leads to negligence charges for Regency

In Ohio, medical negligence is taken seriously. If you have lost a loved one due to medical malpractice, it's important that you know you're not alone in this trying time. There are steps you can take to make sure this won't happen to anyone else, and you may be able to seek compensation that will help you with extraneous bills and financial hardships due to your loved one's death. If you've been keeping up with the national news, you might have heard about the Regency owners being hit with a negligence charge in relation to a 50-year-old woman's death. Her surviving husband and daughter have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Nexion Health Systems, which owns Regency Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Clarksville, Texas.

According to the news, Nexion Health Systems, the defendants named in a recently filed wrongful death lawsuit, had until Monday, Dec. 23, to respond to the lawsuit. The lawsuit claims that the 50-year-old woman had suffered from severe diabetic conditions that needed the administration of insulin by a pump. It claims that the care facility was not managing that pump or her insulin levels correctly. It was reported that she suffered from depression and dementia, both of which contributed to a tendency for the woman to try to leave the care home.

According to the story, the staff allowed the woman to go outside without supervision on Oct. 24, 2012. At that time, she was not properly supervised and left the grounds. She walked onto and crossed US Highway 82, according to reports, and fell into a ditch that had a concrete culvert. At that time, she suffered from a broken arm and foot, and she was there for nearly 45 minutes before the employees located her. According to the news, the employees claimed she had fallen in her room to conceal their negligence. The next day, it was reported that the woman had high glucose levels, 468 by one report, that were not treated. At 6:18 p.m., the lawsuit claims that the woman's glucose level had climbed to 1120, which is greater than 10 times the normal level for the human body; the high level left the woman in cardiac arrest.
