Will a cure for spinal cord injuries ever come to pass?

Ohio residents with spinal cord injuries are just as anxious to see a cure for their injury as anyone. Spinal cord injuries are not like most injuries. They don't heal and allow the patient to return to normal activities. The patient's life is changed forever. Their mobility is gone, and they often require a caretaker.

A couple in California, who has been taking care of their quadriplegic son since 1980, is anxious to see a cure for spinal cord injuries. The couple is in their 80s, and may not be around too much longer to care for their son. This brings about an urgency for them to see their son walk again.

Every day, the 82-year-old mother has lovingly helped to get her 49-year-old son out of bed -- shaved, showered, dressed, teeth brushed and into his wheelchair. Her son has limited use of his hands and has been able to run a mortgage firm with the help of his mother, who works as the receptionist. The parents have never begrudged taking care of their son but are worried about the short lifespan they may have left.

Their son was in a car accident in July of 1980. A tire rod snapped on the Mazda that he and his friends were in, and the car crashed. His neck was broken. Outside of feeding himself, he can do little else on his own now.

Spinal injuries are catastrophic. Care and medical treatment often go on and may be necessary for the rest of their life. Victims of accidents where another is at fault may benefit from consulting a personal injury attorney, who may be able to help them obtain compensation for their life-altering injury. It will no doubt be a long struggle ahead of them and could be costly as well.
