Ohio State University retiree killed in semi truck accident

When traffic isn't driving at a steady pace, drivers have to be extremely careful about what is going on around them. This is especially true for tractor-trailer drivers. A recent Ohio truck accident shows how tragic an accident caused by an inattentive truck driver can turn.

The accident occurred on Interstate 71 in Madison County. A woman was returning home after going to see the Princess Diana exhibit at a museum in Cincinnati when her SUV was hit from behind by a semi truck. She was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident.

According to law enforcement, after hitting the woman's SUV, the tractor-trailer hit another tractor-trailer. It then crashed into the guardrail and flipped over. The driver of the tractor-trailer that was hit was not injured. The 40-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer that allegedly slammed into the woman's SUV is now facing a first degree misdemeanor charge of vehicular homicide in connection with the accident.

Sadly, this 63-year-old woman was only a year into her retirement from Ohio State University. She was a professor there for 25 years and chaired a department at OSU. She leaves behind a husband.

Anyone who has lost a loved one because of a negligent truck driver has the right to seek compensation for damages. Claims for damages can include such things as burial expenses and loss of consortium. Survivors of victims should know the laws of Ohio, including the statute of limitations on compensatory damages. Discussing these matters with an Ohio personal injury attorney may help them to decide how they want to proceed with the case.
