Woman tries to avoid animal in road; kills a woman, injures baby

All drivers have to be prepared for making split-second decisions as they drive. Hazards in the roadway, such as debris or animals, often mean having to decide if you will swerve or stay on course. There are some instances in which a driver's decision will lead to an accident. That is what happened during a recent fatal accident in Ohio.

A 23-year-old woman was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry on her way to work. She noticed an animal in the road and swerved to miss it. That decision ended up costing a 24-year-old mother her life.

When the driver swerved, her vehicle left the road. It then went over a set of cellar doors that were slanted. That caused the vehicle to launch into the living room of a home. The car struck a woman who was sitting on a couch. That woman died.

The woman who died was the mother to a 5-month-old son and a 12-year-old son. The 5-month-old son was in a bouncy seat at the time of the accident. His seat flipped over and he was stuck under the car. Neighbors helped to lift the car up so the baby's older brother could pull him out from under the car.

The baby was taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition. The driver of the vehicle had minor injuries, but refused medical care at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and could take weeks to complete. The driver hasn't been cited for the accident. Still, a mother is dead because a driver tried to avoid an animal in the roadway.

Losing your loved one in a tragic accident can lead to significant difficulties. If you have lost a loved one because of an accident, it is vital that you work to understand your right to seek compensation.
