What are the new advances in spinal cord injury treatment?

A spinal cord injury can be caused by a motor vehicle accident, act of violence, sports injury or another similar situation. Anybody who suffers this type of injury understands that his or her life is going to change, at least for the time being. However, there is a variety of treatment options to consider.

Thanks to the advancement of medicine, combined with technology, people who suffer a spinal cord injury have access to more rehabilitation methods than ever before. Some of the most recent advancements include:

-- Robotic therapies to assist with motor function.

-- The use of body weight supported treadmills.

-- Electrical stimulation to improve cardiovascular function.

-- Advanced wheelchairs, such as those that provide pressure mapping.

-- The use of pharmacologic interventions to help reduce spasticity.

It doesn't matter how a person suffers a spinal cord injury. What matters is that he or she is diagnosed without delay and then treated in the appropriate manner. When the time comes, the person must then go through the rehabilitation program that gives him or her the best chance at regaining control of his or her life.

There is a long way to go in regards to the treatment of spinal cord injuries, but modern medicine is doing wonders. This is great news for those who have experienced this injury.

When a person suffers this type of injury, such as in a motor vehicle accident, immediate medical treatment is a must. Only after this can the person be stabilized and then begin to consider which type of rehabilitation will provide the best results moving forward. These treatments and therapies can be very expensive. If the spinal cord injury was caused by another person's negligence, it is possible to seek compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and much more.
