Many people who have a spinal cord injury need help

Some people who have suffered from spinal cord injuries have difficulties performing basic care duties. In many cases, these individuals will need someone to help them with tasks like getting dress, driving, bathing, and other things that most people do without thinking. It is sometimes necessary for these individuals to hire a personal care attendant to help meet their needs. This is sometimes a temporary need, but some people with a spinal cord injury will require life-long care.

Some individuals count on a loved ones, such as spouse, to provide the personal care that is necessary. That can become difficult for the spouse, especially when they are trying to keep up with other household duties. It might become necessary to hire someone as a personal care assistant. This can be done through an agency or on your own, depending on how much time you have to check out the candidates.

When you hire a person to help you care for yourself, you need to make sure that the person has experience or training for dealing with the unique needs of spinal cord injury patients. This can include special skin care routines, respiratory care, bowel and bladder care, and other types of care that you might need. The more the person knows, the better care you are likely to receive.

Hiring an attendant is a costly endeavor when you have to self pay. If your injury was caused by an accident that was caused by another party, you might seek compensation to help you cover the cost of the attendant and other expenses that you have because you suffered a catastrophic injury.
