Don't fall for these common tanker truck rollover myths

Tanker trucks are very dangerous when they aren't driven by a trucker who is following safety protocol perfectly. These trucks can sometimes contain hazardous materials, but even when they don't, the consequences of an accident can be harrowing. Some people might think that tanker accidents only happen when the road conditions are bad; however, that isn't the case. Here are some facts about tanker rollover accidents you should know.

-- The majority of tanker truck rollover accidents occur during the day. This puts to rest the myth that these accidents are more likely to happen when it is dark. It also means that truckers need to be extra cautious when they drive during the day.

-- More than half of tanker rollover accidents happen on straight portions of roadways, and almost all tanker accidents happen when the roads are dry. This negates the myths that tankers are more likely to crash on curvy roads or in the rain.

-- Even experienced drivers can have a rollover crash. In fact, around 38 percent of tanker crashes involved truckers with more than a decade of experience. Most of the rollover crashes involve truckers who are 25 to 55 years old.

-- Excessive speed plays a part in most tanker rollovers. This is far from the truth. Only around 28 percent of these accidents involved a trucker who was driving too fast for the road conditions.

If you are injured in an accident that included a tanker truck rollover, you might need medical care. You might also decide that you are going to seek compensation for the accident. Knowing the process and how to investigate the case can go a long way.
