Drunk driving accidents are preventable and horrible

When a person who has been drinking alcohol decides to drive a vehicle, that person is making the decision to put his or her life and and the life of any other person on the road with them in danger. This is simply unacceptable. If you are injured in an accident that was caused by a drunk driver, you can opt to seek compensation from that driver, as well as other parties that might be legally liable.

Out of the people who drink and drive, 80 percent are men and 85 percent of drunk drivers are reported by binge drinkers. Binge drinking means drinking more than four drinks for a woman or five for a man within a short period of time. Binge drinking can lead to significant effects in the abilities of the drinker.

It takes around four beers for the average person to hit the legal limit of .08 percent blood alcohol concentration. At this point, the person can have difficulty controlling their speed, processing information and reasoning. At around five beers, the average person will have a BAC of .10 percent. This is associated with difficulty staying in their lane, slow reaction times and trouble braking.

While sobriety checkpoints, ignition interlock devices and other similar methods can greatly reduce drunk driving accidents, they can't prevent them all. This is why it is so important for drunk drivers to take the time to realize that they are putting lives in danger when they drive.

For the victims of drunk driving accidents, it is often an uphill battle to reclaim the life they lived before the accident. Medical concerns and financial devastation might occur. In those cases, seeking compensation might help to get things back where they need to be.
