When motorists get behind the wheel of a vehicle, their duty to pay attention to the road begins. Drivers who don’t pay attention to the road and drive in a safe manner can harm others who are on the roadways. A recent accident in Lancaster, Ohio, proves that point.
The accident occurred when a female driving an SUV ran off the roadway. She over-corrected when she tried to return to the roadway. She entered the lane of oncoming traffic where she slammed head-on into a motorcycle. The man riding that motorcycle was killed when his bike went off the road and overturned. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
A female with the same last name as the man who was killed was also riding a motorcycle. She swerved in an attempt to not get hit. Her motorcycle flipped over. She had to be taken to the hospital via air transport with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening. The two motorcyclists were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
The 22-year-old driver of the SUV and her 30-year-old male passenger were taken to the hospital. Both suffered only minor injuries despite the fact that neither was wearing a seatbelt.
Motorcycle accidents can be tragic. Whether a motorcyclist is killed or injured, the driver who slammed into the motorcycle should be held accountable for his or her negligent or reckless actions. Seeking compensation from the driver can help to do just that. If monetary compensation is awarded, it can help to cover the costs that are associated with the accident.
