Intoxicated driver hits and kills 15-year-old boy

A 15-year-old boy and his 37-year-old mother, both of whom were fishing at a pond on a farm, were hit by a truck that veered off the side of the road. The boy was pushed into the pond and killed, and the mother was hospitalized with moderate injuries. The Ohio family, including the father and a brother, was on vacation. Police say the 25-year-old female driver was intoxicated and charged her with DUI. They also indicated other charges may be filed after their investigation is complete.

Use and abuse of alcohol or drugs is often involved in many Ohio car accidents. The boy's mother said that her son died a hero while pushing a 6-year-old boy who was also fishing at the pond out of the path of the oncoming truck. While the younger boy also fell in the water, he was not struck by the vehicle and he did survive.

The accident occurred at approximately 11:45 p.m., and doctors struggled to try to save the 15-year-old. Their efforts were futile, and he died at approximately 4 a.m. of injuries that included blunt-force trauma to his chest and head. The truck, according to investigators, traveled approximately 240 feet into the field surrounding the pond before hitting the boy and his mother.

When tragedies like this happen, nothing can ever really compensate for the loss of a loved one, such as this heroic young man whose only thought was to save a 6-year-old boy from injury or death. At the same time, it is only right that a reckless, intoxicated driver be made to pay for the consequences of his or her actions.

If you have lost a loved due to the negligent or reckless actions of another, contact an experienced personal injury attorney. Your attorney can advise you of your rights and options, including a possible civil lawsuit against those responsible for your loss. You may be able to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit, including claims for funeral and final medical expenses, as well as lost income and services.
