Serious brain injuries often caused by bike riding not football

Brain injuries are very serious. While everyone is aware that football players are extremely susceptive to concussions and other head injuries, they might be surprised to learn that bike riding results in more head injuries than football. Ohio brain injuries result in many personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits every year in which attorneys assist brain injury victims and their families to get the compensation they need and deserve.

Statistics from 2009 for sports head injuries treated in hospital emergency rooms nationwide indicated that about 20 percent of them stemmed from bike riding, approximately 10 percent of them were the result of football playing, and only a little more than 8 percent arose in the course of playing baseball. Among kids under 14, bike riding resulted in about double the number of head injuries as football playing, and were the most common cause of head injuries. One major reason that head and brain injuries are more frequently caused by biking riding is that fewer people play football.

The level of seriousness of bike head injuries varies greatly, of course, with around 90 percent of the injuries that result in death occurring when the bike rider was not wearing a helmet. Brain injuries are also often accompanied by vision difficulties, including visual/balance disorders, double vision of a persistent variety, and visual field loss. The visual/balance problems seem to arise more often in moving and crowded environments. Some people go to the extent of putting a patch over one eye for a time to try to cope with double vision problem.

Other visual difficulties accompanying brain injuries can include difficulty in coping with normal light glare, and heightened light sensitivity generally. There are, fortunately, some available therapies that can help.
