Two injured in crash with tanker truck

Three vehicles, two cars and a tanker truck, were involved in an afternoon crash near Malvern, Ohio, on state Route 43. Two vehicle occupants were injured, although police investigators indicated that their wounds appeared not to be life threatening. The impact of the collision apparently totally destroyed the cab of the truck and it erupted into flames. Witnesses saw dark smoke billowing in large quantities into the air. The accident, which occurred at approximately 1 p.m., like many Ohio car accidents, brought traffic on the highway to a standstill, as emergency responders hurried to remove debris from the road, and medical personnel tended to the injured.

The crash took place close to Lemmon Road. Both cars were traveling south when one slowed or stopped to attempt to turn left. As the other car went around it, it first hit one car, and then went on to a head-on accident with the northbound truck, which belonged to a concrete company.

The investigation into the causes of the accident is ongoing. Some common causes of car accidents include abuse of drugs or alcohol, speeding, driving while fatigued, and distracted driving as a result of texting or cell phone use behind the wheel. Such careless driving puts everyone on the road at risk of serious injury or death, including motorists, passengers, bike riders, and pedestrians. A moment of carelessness can result in life-altering consequences for victims and their families.

Fire personnel from several local townships responded to the accident, helping to put out the flames. After the accident, the tanker truck veered off the highway, coming to a stop in a nearby cornfield, and suffering severe damage from the combined results of the collision and the ensuing blaze.
