Driver arrested for fatal truck accident that killed 2

Federal marshals have arrested a truck driver for his involvement in a six-vehicle accident approximately a year ago that ended the lives of two people and injured a number of others. The fiery collision has resulted in charges of criminal recklessness, reckless homicide and involuntary manslaughter being lodged against the trucker. Officers summoned to the scene of the accident were confronted with shattered glass and the debris from the trucker's semi, as well as two SUVs and three cars scattered on the highway and surrounding area.

A total of seven people were rushed to nearby medical facilities by emergency responders summoned to the grim accident scene. Two of them subsequently died in hospitals of critical injuries, despite the efforts of medical personnel doing everything they could to try to save them. The two who died were a 65-year-old woman and a 43-year-old woman, both of whom suffered severe blunt force trauma in the crash.

Investigators charged that both women's vehicles and the other vehicles involved in the accident were struck by the trucker's semi. They stated that he did not even slow down, much less stop, as a traffic light at the location of the accident changed from green to red. As with many Ohio truck accidents, multiple wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits have been filed against both the trucker and his trucking company.

These lawsuits included claims by the families of both the deceased woman, as well as each of the five surviving accident victims. News accounts stated that three of those lawsuits have ended in settlements. Such lawsuits can seek recovery of medical and funeral expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and other economic losses. Recovery in such civil lawsuits against reckless truckers does not depend on the outcome of criminal prosecutions against the truckers or even whether a criminal prosecution occurs at all.
