Ohio truck accident kills 1, truck driver sentenced

For truck drivers, severe fatigue is sometimes commonplace. These truckers are often on very strict deadlines that don't leave much time to rest. Always meeting deadlines can sometimes mean that the truck drivers aren't in a suitable state to be behind the wheel of a huge semi-truck.

One trucker was way too sleepy while he was driving and fell asleep at the wheel. He crossed the median, striking a car driven by the victim.

The trucker was facing a vehicular homicide misdemeanor charge but was able to plead no contest to a lesser charge. He asked for probation and voluntarily surrendered his commercial driver's license.

The man's family addressed the court prior to the sentencing. The judge ultimately sentenced him to a 2-year license suspension, 90 days in jail and five years of probation with 60 days in jail suspended. This man will also have to speak to people about the dangers of driving while fatigued and pay a $750 fine.

The victim's family has to learn to live a life without him because of the actions of this man. The victim was a Vietnam War veteran who had a wife, children and grandchildren. They say the man doesn't show remorse for the Ohio truck accident.

Anyone who has lost a loved one to a truck accident in Ohio might get the satisfaction of seeing the at-fault driver face criminal charges; however, a conviction won't help to cover the financial strain of the accident. It might be possible for some semi-truck accident victims to seek compensation that could help to offset some of the final expenses.
