Single-vehicle accident kills patient in ambulance in Ohio

Patients who get into an ambulance expect to get to the hospital or medical facility safely; however, that doesn't always happen. While the likelihood of getting into an accident is low, it is still possible. A recent accident in Mansfield, Ohio, is an example of what can happen when an ambulance is involved in an accident.

The accident happened by Ohio State Road 13, when an ambulance crashed through a guardrail. It then rolled down an embankment. An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper says that accidents like this are rare because of the emergency training practices for driving the ambulance.

Debris, including an oxygen tank, bandages and gloves, was still present in the area the day after the accident. The crash is still under investigation. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the crash and the speed at which the ambulance was traveling at the time of the accident.

The patient who was being transported and a 30-year-old male emergency medical technician were thrown from the back of the ambulance in the accident. The female driver of the ambulance was injured in the accident. Both the EMT and the ambulance driver were taken to the hospital with injuries said to be minor. The patient was killed in the accident with his death being pronounced at the scene.

For this patient, seeking emergency medical care led to his death. While that isn't very common, that fact likely doesn't offer much, if any, comfort to his grieving family. As they work through the grieving process, they might want to know answers about their loved one's death.

Losing a family member in a tragic Ohio car accident usually leads to strong emotions. For some, seeking compensation for their loved one's death might help them to get closure. Understanding the process through which to seek compensation might be helpful.
