State hopes to cut back on Labor Day Ohio car accidents

Many people look forward to holidays, as this gives them an opportunity to have fun with friends and family. While some people are able to do so in a responsible manner, others take things too far with their alcohol consumption. This generally means getting behind the wheel after they have had too much to drink.

Every year on Labor Day weekend, the Ohio State Highway Patrol tends to see an increase in the number of traffic incidents. Once again this year, police are doing their part in keeping people safe.

During the four day Labor Day holiday of 2013, 16 people were killed throughout the state. Of these Ohio car accidents, eight of the deaths involved a driver who was impaired.

An Ohio State Highway Patrol superintendent said, "It's so much more than just a record. Fewer fatalities on Ohio roadways means more people are getting home safely to their family. It's simple. If you are impaired, don't get behind the wheel."

So far, 2014 has been a safer year on the roadways throughout Ohio. Last year was the safest to date, but 2014 is on track for even fewer fatalities related to traffic accidents. To date, there have been 600 traffic deaths, compared to 610 through the same period last year.

Labor Day is known as a time when people will take to the road, even if they have been drinking. Anybody who is involved in a car accident with an impaired driver could be injured or killed. These incidents often result in a lawsuit, as victims or their family have the option to pursue their legal rights.
