Are Ohio car accidents related to distracted driving?

No matter where you live or how much you drive, it is safe to assume that you have seen somebody behind the wheel who is distracted. While many people get away with distracted driving time and time again, others cause an accident as a result of this activity.

There are many causes of Ohio car accidents, ranging from distracted driving to negligence, such as running a stop sign, speeding or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If you look at the bigger picture, it is easy to see that distracted driving has become a major problem throughout the United States.

How big of a problem has this become?

The Official U.S. Government Website for Distracted Driving notes that 3,328 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents in 2012 in which at least one party was distracted. This was a slight decrease from 2011, but a large number nonetheless. Along with the number of fatalities, more than 400,000 people were injured in such accidents in 2012.

This is a problem that plagues people of all ages, with the younger generation, such as those in their 20's, affected the most.

When a person is hurt in a motor vehicle accident, regardless of the cause, they should first get medical care. From there, they can determine if they are able to seek compensation from the negligent party. Because of complex Ohio state laws, it is a challenge to know for sure if you can file a claim. Once you have the right information and advice, you can then decide who is responsible and if you are entitled to any money.
