2 sent to hospital after Ohio car accident

The highways that run through the state of Ohio can be a dangerous place. This is particularly true if a driver is under the influence or distracted.

A recent accident on I-77 north sent two people to the hospital, including a police officer. According to reports, the officer was on the side of the road after pulling a vehicle over. At that time, a pickup truck sped by and hit the police car, causing it to flip over.

The 42-year-old police officer, as well as the driver of the truck, were taken to Metro for treatment. No additional information regarding either person's condition was released to the public.

The police chief noted that alcohol was likely a contributing factor. He added the following in a statement:

"You know, I don't want to draw any conclusions because I don't know why he was stopping the car, but you know it's real simple. When you're going down the road and you see the red lights and the blue lights, you need to get over and slow down."

Nobody knows for sure what caused the accident, but authorities will be checking into the possibility that alcohol played a part in the crash.

It doesn't matter where you are driving or how safe you think you are being, there is always the chance you could be involved in a motor vehicle accident. While there are steps you can personally take to improve your safety, you don't know what other drivers are doing. In the event of an accident caused by a negligent driver, some people decide to consult with an attorney to learn more about their rights.
