Ohio car crash that killed intern claims life of engineer

When drivers are in areas frequented by pedestrians, they must be extra careful to avoid hitting those pedestrians. If the driver has other people in the vehicle, this means avoiding becoming distracted by those people.

In a recent accident, the driver of pickup truck claims to have been distracted by a passenger who he claims was hitting him while he was driving. Her family says that isn't what happened. Regardless of what was going on in the truck, the fact remains that the man's speeding and weaving ended up causing a fatal accident.

A Columbus city engineer and his intern were walking to a meeting when they were crushed by a bus that was struck by the pickup truck. The young intern was killed.

The engineer was taken to the hospital after the accident. He suffered internal injuries, head trauma and other injuries. He had to have one leg amputated right after the crash. His other leg was later amputated. The engineer succumbed to his injuries more than two weeks after the crash. He was pronounced dead at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center.

The driver of the bus that crashed into the two pedestrians was injured. None of her students were injured.

Two lives were lost and two families are left grieving because of what appears to be a case of a distracted driver causing an accident. While there haven't been any charges in this case, the investigation is ongoing. Hopefully, these two families will be able to heal after this tragic accident.

There is never a good reason to drive while distracted. Anyone who is injured by a distracted driver and the family members of anyone killed by a distracted driver might opt to hold that driver responsible in the civil court system. Seeking compensation for damages related to the accident might help to lessen the financial blow after the accident.
