What should I do after an Ohio truck accident?

We have often discussed accidents on this blog. That might have some of our Ohio readers wondering what they should do if they have been in an accident. There are several points our readers should consider after being involved in an accident.

Who should I talk to after the accident?

You should exchange information with the other driver. This should include names, contact information and insurance information. Besides that, you shouldn't say anything. If you say anything else, the other party might try to misconstrue what you said into something that can be used against you if you opt to pursue compensation. Don't apologize to the other person because that could be considered an admission of fault.

Do I have to call the police?

You should call the police and remain at the scene until an officer arrives. Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime. Contacting emergency services via 911 also gives you the chance to get medical help to the scene if there are injuries.

Do I need medical care?

Even if you don't think you are injured, it is still a good idea to get a medical evaluation. You might be shook up and not realize that you are injured. If you are given a medical care plan, follow it.

You should also contact your insurance company and you should decide if you will seek compensation for the accident. In the case of a truck accident, you will have to determine who must be held liable for the accident. This can be the insurance company, the trucking company, the truck or trailer manufacturer, the trucker or a combination of all of them. Figuring out who is liable is one of the first decisions you have to make.
