Choosing the right type of child safety seat

You never know when you may be involved in a motor vehicle accident. This could happen at any point, even if you are obeying all the rules of the road.

If you are traveling with a child, it is important to know if he or she needs to be situated in a safety seat. There are many types of child safety seats, so it is a must that you choose the right one based on your child's age and size.

Early on, your child will ride in a rear-facing only child safety seat. These are smaller than other types, and often have a carrying handle for convenience.

Once a child is too big for a rear-facing only child safety seat, it is time for him or her to graduate to a forward-facing seat. There are many types of seats that fit into this category, including combination seats, 3-in-one, all-in-one and convertible. Many forward-facing seats are designed for use in children up to 80 pounds.

At some point, a child will become too big for a forward-facing seat. This is when parents should use a booster seat with a traditional seat belt. Most children are not big enough to use a seat belt, without a booster seat, until they reach 8 to 10 years of age.

It is imperative that you choose the right type of safety seat for your child. This will improve his or her safety in an accident, as well as the overall level of comfort.

The right child safety seat can protect your child in the event of any type of accident, from a rear collision to a side impact among others.
