Common questions associated with distracted driving

As a licensed driver, you understand the importance of paying attention to the roadway, as well as what is going on around you, at all times. Even so, this doesn't mean you never become distracted. This doesn't mean you never take your eyes away from the road.

There are many common questions associated with distracted driving, including the following:

-- What are the primary types of distraction? These include cognitive, manual and visual.

-- What are the different types of distracted driving? While most people are familiar with texting and driving, others overlook the fact that there are additional types of distractions, such as eating, drinking or operating a navigation system.

-- What group of people are most likely to drive distracted? Anybody can drive distracted, but some are more likely to do so. For example, younger and more inexperienced drivers have the highest rate of distraction-related fatal accidents.

-- Is it ever safe to speak on a cellphone when driving? Even when using a hands free device, this can serve as a distraction to the driver.

These are just a few of the most common questions associated with distracted driving. Even with authorities, such as the U.S. Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, doing their best to combat and prevent this problem, there will always be people who are distracted when operating a motor vehicle.

It is one thing to ensure that you remain focused on the road. However, you cannot do the same for those in other vehicles. This is why you need to pay close attention to everything going on around you. Awareness could help you avoid an accident.
