Deputy and civilian hit by car after initial accident

A police officer and a civilian were hit by a car in Ohio, and both had to be taken to the hospital. Both were in critical condition when they were transported to Grant Medical Center.

The accident happened after another three-car wreck got the deputy called to the scene. This was in Violet Township, near U.S. 33 and Pickerington Road. It was about 7:30 in the evening when the deputy arrived on the scene.

A 68-year-old man was driving down U.S. 33 at the same time, heading west. He was from Texas. He then ran into the deputy and another man who was at the crash site.

That other man, who is 46 years old, is now in serious condition. The deputy is also out of critical condition, and his life is not thought to be in danger. He does have a serious leg injury, however.

Both the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office are looking into the accident. At this time, they don't think alcohol played a part in the crash, though they have also not yet given out an official explanation for why it happened.

The deputy is from Stoutsville, Ohio, and he is 34 years old. Officials with the police department said that he'd been on the force for 13 years, since he was just 21. It appears that he has worked with the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office that entire time.

Those who are injured in car accidents in Ohio need to know what rights they have to compensation for pain and suffering, medical bills, lost wages and other costs.
