Does alcohol consumption affect motorcyclists?

With the warmer-than-normal weather that Ohio has been experiencing recently, motorcyclists have the opportunity to spend more time of the roadways than normal. Since the holiday season is upon us, it is critical that any motorcyclist who is out riding uses proper safety protocol. This is especially true if the motorcyclist is going to be heading out to holiday parties.

Does alcohol increase the chance of a motorcycle accident?

Alcohol and motorcycles don't mix. The consumption of any alcohol increases the chance of being involved in an accident by five times. If your blood alcohol concentration is more than .05 percent, that risk is increased to 40 times more than normal. This is because alcohol affects your thought process and senses in a way that makes it impossible for you to search for hazards, evaluate the hazards you notice and execute the safest way to deal with those hazards.

What should I do if I'm going to a party with alcohol?

If you are heading to a party that will involve alcohol, you have two basic options to help keep you safe. The first is to not drink so you can drive home safely. The second is to ride with a designated driver who isn't going to drink.

If you are involved in an accident this holiday season, having alcohol in your system might affect your claim for compensation. Anyone who is trying to seek compensation for an accident that was caused by another person should work to understand various aspects of personal injury claims that might affect the case he or she is presenting for compensation.
