Common signs of a spinal cord injury

There are many signs and symptoms associated with a spinal cord injury, some of which are easier to pinpoint than others.

If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident, for example, there is always the chance that you could suffer from some type of spinal cord injury. In this scenario, it's essential to receive immediate medical attention. This can be the difference between making a recovery and dealing with long term trouble.

Here are some of the most common signs of a spinal cord injury:

-- Extreme amounts of pressure or pain in the neck, back, and/or head region.

-- Loss of sensation or a tingling feeling in the toes, feet, or fingers.

-- Difficulty with walking and balancing.

-- Complete or partial loss of control over any body part.

-- Impaired breathing.

-- Bowel or urinary urgency.

It is important to understand the most common signs associated with a spinal cord injury. Even more so, however, you need to understand the urgency of receiving treatment.

Many people believe that a spinal cord injury always causes paralysis. This is not true. It is possible that you could injure your spinal cord but still be able to move all body parts.

Modern medicine is doing wonders for those who have suffered a spinal cord injury. Nobody wants to face this type of injury, but it's good to know that there are treatment options available in Ohio. By taking the right approach, it is possible for a person to fully recover from this type of injury. It may not be easy, but it is definitely possible.
