How should truckers drive in the rain?

Truck drivers need to take special precautions when driving in the rain. If they don't, they put themselves, as well as other drivers, at risk of being involved in an accident.

Fortunately, there are steps that truckers can take to improve their performance and stay safe, even when the rain is pouring down. First and foremost, truckers should slow down in wet conditions. This helps to avoid hydroplaning, which is a leading cause of truck accidents.

Along with this, it is important to remain alert and focused at all times. This means keeping both hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road. Along with this, distractions, such as talking on a mobile phone, should never come into the equation.

Finally, truck drivers should take into consideration the other vehicles on the road. Everyone needs to share the road, and this is even more important in the rain. Slick roadways make things tricky for all drivers, so being respectful to others is always a good idea.

While these are some of the steps that truckers can take to drive safely in the rain, here's what you need to remember: This doesn't always happen. Instead, there are times when truckers continue to drive as if the roads were dry, which increases the likelihood of an accident.

As a passenger vehicle operator, if you're involved in a truck accident you could be faced with serious injury. Do your best to move your car out of harm's way. From there, call for an ambulance. Once you are stabilized, you can then learn more about your legal rights in Ohio.
