Do you know how to drive safely in the snow?

During the cold winter months, Ohio residents know that snow can enter the area at any point in time. While this can be beautiful to look at, it's anything but that if you find yourself on the road.

Fortunately, there are some steps you can take to ensure your safety even if the snow begins to pick up.

-- Do everything slowly. From accelerating to decelerating, make sure every move you make is controlled and in a slow manner.

-- Give yourself more space. There is never a good time to drive closely to the person in front of you, but this is even truer when there is snow on the road.

-- Don't stop abruptly. It goes without saying that there may be times when you have no choice but to do so. However, when possible, you should bring your vehicle to a gradual stop.

-- Don't stop when driving up a hill. If you stop on a hill, you may find it difficult to start back up. In some cases, you could even begin to slide back down.

Although you may do your best to follow these tips when driving in the snow, others may not take the same approach. This is why accidents often happen during the winter months.

If you find yourself involved in a crash, move your car to safety and check yourself for injuries. From there, if necessary, contact an ambulance. You may find that you require immediate medical attention, and this is the best way to get it. Then, once you feel better, you can learn more about your legal rights and how to receive compensation from the negligent party.
