Truckers can do these things to avoid distracted driving

Anybody who gets behind the wheel of a vehicle should understand the importance of remaining focused on the task at hand at all times.

Most truck drivers understand that there are distractions that can get in their way. They also understand how important it is to avoid these at all costs.

Unfortunately, there are times when truckers become distracted when driving. As a result, the likelihood of causing an accident is much greater.

Here are some of the things that truckers can do to avoid distracted driving:

-- Don't use a cellphone for any reason. From texting to talking, it's best to pull over to a safe area before using a mobile device.

-- Don't eat or drink and drive. There is no denying the fact that truckers have tight deadlines. Even so, this doesn't mean they should attempt to eat or drink and drive. Doing these two things at the same time will increase the chance of an accident.

-- Program your GPS accordingly. Attempting to adjust a GPS system while the truck is in motion can lead to a crash.

Truck drivers and truck companies need to do whatever they can to prevent accidents. As a passenger vehicle operator, do your best to keep your distance from commercial trucks. This alone will improve your safety.

If you are involved in an accident, take the time to learn more about the cause. If the trucker was distracted at the time of the crash, maybe because he or she was texting, you're in better position to receive compensation for your injuries and other damages.
