How will you remain safe on your spring break road trip?

Every year, tens of thousands of people across the country embark on a spring break road trip. While college students may be among the largest group of spring breakers, people of all ages vacation during this time of the year.

If you find yourself traveling by car to your destination, it's important to focus on your safety at all times. Here are some tips to follow:

-- Keep your eyes on the road at all times. Distracted driving is a major concern, as this leads to many accidents and injuries every year.

-- Poor road conditions. For example, you may run into unfavorable weather conditions at some point. If the rain begins to pour, for example, it could make the roadways more difficult to navigate.

-- Don't drive drowsy. Depending on the length of your trip, you may find yourself behind the wheel for an extended period of time. Drowsy driving, just the same as drunk driving, is extremely dangerous.

In addition to taking these steps, there's one other thing you need to do: Keep a close watch on other drivers. Just because you're obeying the rules of the road doesn't mean that other drivers are taking the same level of caution.

If you're involved in an accident, focus first on your health as well as that of your passengers. From there, move your car to safety and contact police and an ambulance. Once all of these details are taken care of, you can then learn more about your legal rights. You may be able to receive compensation if a negligent party, such as another driver, caused the accident.
