Attorney Profile | Sara Nichols

Unlike her fellow colleagues, Sara Nichols did not pursue law, law pursued her. Sara did not aspire to be an attorney at an early age but her education, previous career opportunities and invaluable collection of life experiences helped unveil her true passion.

One thing that has remained a constant in Sara's career is her compassion for people and her willingness to assist. Sara graduated from THE Ohio State University with a degree in sociology and worked at many establishments before pursuing her law career including a pet treat bakery and Sephora as an associate in the skin care department. After several years in the working world, Sara's destined career path led her to accept an open position at a law firm where her aunt worked. Sara fell in love with her role and responsibilities as a Paralegal Assistant but quickly learned opportunities were limited.

Curtis attended undergrad at Centre College of Kentucky then later on went to study law at Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law. He currently calls Columbus home and is passionate about the city and everything it has to offer.

4.6 seconds is a long time for a trucker to drive distracted

Commercial drivers, including those who operate semitrucks and buses, need to have their attention on the roadway. Failing to do so can result in accidents that can range from minor fender benders to fatal crashes. One thing that can distract truckers and other commercial drivers is texting. For this reason, the federal government has stepped in to set up regulations regarding texting, smartphone use, and cellphone use for these drivers.

A driver who is sending or receiving a text takes their eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds. This doesn't seem like a very long time, but when you are traveling at high rates of speed, it is actually a very long time. In this time span, a vehicle moving at 55 miles per hour travels the entire length of a football field. That is enough distance to cause a very serious accident -- in less than five seconds.

What are the most common causes of motorcycle accidents?

As you make your way down the road on your motorcycle, you should do whatever it takes to avoid trouble. This means many things, such as paying attention to the road in front of you at all times.

Unfortunately, just because you're trying to remain safe, it doesn't mean that other drivers feel the same way. In fact, some people, such as passenger vehicle drivers, don't care to share the road with motorcyclists.

How will you remain safe on your spring break road trip?

Every year, tens of thousands of people across the country embark on a spring break road trip. While college students may be among the largest group of spring breakers, people of all ages vacation during this time of the year.

If you find yourself traveling by car to your destination, it's important to focus on your safety at all times. Here are some tips to follow:

Pregnant women should be careful after a car accident

You've done everything that you could think of to keep your unborn baby safe during your pregnancy. Being involved in a traffic accident is one thing that you can't plan for when you are pregnant, but wearing your seat belt can help you to stay as safe as possible. Still, there are some things that you need to think about after the accident that a woman who isn't pregnant wouldn't have to think about.

First, you should seek medical care even if you don't think that you were injured. Your uterus provides some protection for your baby, but it can't prevent all injuries from occurring. Your health care provider might choose to do an ultrasound to check on the baby. Depending on how far along you are, there is a chance that you might have to be monitored for signs of fetal distress or signs of an impending labor.

College students and females have longer concussion recovery time

People who suffer from a concussion need time to recover from the injury. For some college students, recovering from a concussion isn't something that can necessarily be done, according to information presented at the Association of Academic Physiatrists Annual Meeting.

The issue with college students is that they don't have much downtime for recovery. They can't just take the time they need to recuperate from a concussion because of the duties school. College students have a tight schedule for classes, projects and similar aspects of school.

Traumatic brain injury: Several points to consider

Traumatic brain injuries are some of the most difficult ones to deal with because the effects are usually global, meaning they affect the entire body. When the traumatic brain injury is caused by a blow to the head, there are very specific considerations that must be looked into.

The location of the hit is the first consideration. Typically, the area that was hit and the area below the point of impact are the ones that will suffer the most damage. This is one thing that makes brain injuries so devastating, because the functions controlled by the exact location of the hit to head aren't the only ones that are affected.

How much is your car accident case worth?
