Can a motorcycle accident cause traumatic brain injury?

Webmaster

Traumatic brain injury occurs as the result of a jolt or blow to the head. This is common in many types of motor vehicle accidents, including those involving a motorcycle.

A motorcyclist does not have much protection between their head and the road as well as other debris. This is why it is so important to wear a helmet at all times.

A mild traumatic brain injury may not have much impact on a person’s life over the long run. However, a more serious injury can require emergency surgery and a life full of treatment and care.

The type, location and severity of the brain injury will dictate the symptoms. Some of the most common symptoms associated with this type of injury include:

— Memory loss.

— Loss of consciousness.

— Disorientation and confusion.

— Headaches.

— Fatigue.

— Sleep difficulties.

— Vomiting.

— Seizures.

— Loss of balance and dizziness.

— Emotional disturbances, including but not limited to irritability and mood swings.

— Visual problems.

If a person is involved in a motorcycle accident, he or she should not delay in receiving medical treatment. It is important to remember that some injuries do not present immediately, but instead remain dormant for several hours or longer.

There is no denying the fact that a motorcycle accident can cause a variety of injuries, including those to your brain. Anybody who is involved in such an accident should not hesitate to seek care, as this can be the difference between dealing with a serious problem in the appropriate manner and having it impact you for an extended period of time.
