A man has filed suit against his former doctor for failing to diagnose a bone infection.
The defendant performed orthopedic surgery on the plaintifff, aiming to increase the flexibility of his knee and decrease pain. Unfortunately, the knee pain and poor range of motion continued so the plaintifff sought the advice of two other doctors. Both of these physicians diagnosed him with a bone infection, or osteomyelitis.
The lawsuit alleges that the first doctor acted negligently and should have diagnosed the bone infection as the cause of the man’s knee problems. Instead, he put the patient through unnecessary surgery while allowing the infection to progress.
Physicians are human beings and make mistakes. However, misdiagnoses are far too common. In many situations, such as in the aforementioned lawsuit, a diagnosis error is the result of negligence.
