It doesn’t matter what type of vehicle you are driving, nothing changes the fact that you could be involved in a truck accident. There are times when truckers make mistakes on the road, thus leading to a serious accident that injures and/or kills the other people involved.
By understanding the most common reasons for truck accidents, you can take steps toward avoiding dangerous situations. Here are a few reasons to be aware of:
— Truck drivers who are not obeying the rules of the road, such as driving at an excessive speed.
— Truck driver fatigue.
— Distracted driving, including but not limited to using a mobile device, eating or drinking.
— Substance abuse, including both alcohol and drugs.
— Improper maintenance or repair work.
— Blind spots.
As you can see, some of these common reasons for truck accidents can be prevented. For example, make sure you never driver in a trucker’s blind spot.
On the other hand, there are things that you cannot prevent as the driver of a passenger vehicle. There is no way to stop a trucker from texting and driving. There is no way to make this person get enough sleep before taking to the wheel.
All in all, the more you know about the most common reasons for truck accidents the better off you will be. This will help you make the right choices on the road, some of which will keep you safer. If you drive cautiously and share the road with truckers, you can reduce, but not eliminate, the chance of a serious accident.
