What should you do if you have a concussion?

Categories: Uncategorized

If you have reason to believe you have suffered a concussion, such as in a motor vehicle accident, it’s important that you don’t wait around and hope for the best. Any brain injury should be treated immediately. If you neglect to do so, it could make things worse on you in the long run.

First things first, visit the emergency room. This will make you feel much better, as you know you are in good hands. Soon enough, the medical team can order the appropriate tests, which can include an MRI scan, CT scan, and basic neurological exam.

Once you are diagnosed, it’s time to learn more about your treatment plan. One of the best ways to treat a concussion is with rest. This gives the brain the chance to heal, all without the risk of another injury.

While not always the case, most people who suffer a concussion are able to return to their normal life within a week. Even so, it’s important to remember this: You don’t want to put yourself in harm’s way, as another concussion could cause more serious damage to your brain.

Due to the importance of rest, it’s a must that you are diagnosed sooner rather than later. This gives you the opportunity to receive the necessary treatment, without doing something that risks further damage.

Are you unsure if you have a concussion? It is better to be safe than sorry. Rather than guess and hope that you are right, visit a medical professional who can examine you, perform the appropriate tests, and answer all your questions.
